Thanksgiving '10

So we were really bummed to miss Thanksgiving at home this year, but we had a pretty great time being able to skype with both families. Skype and magic jack sure make the world seem a lot smaller. I (Nicole) even watched some football in the wee hours of the evening this past weekend. Couldn't miss the Michigan - OSU game.

Anyway, we did our best to celebrate the American holiday from afar.
We brought a pumpkin pie to school on Thursday. We bought it at costco for about $6.00! It was super cheap and very delicious! The teachers loved it.

And here we are about to dig in with our chopsticks. No plates, like normal - you just go after your piece and poke anyone who tries to take it from you.

It really was tasty and made it actually feel like a special day.

Later that week we went out and ended up buying some dried squid (I think) from a street vendor. Here is the before picture of tasting it.
Here is chewing on it. Doesn't look to good does it?? They say it wasn't. I wasn't brave enough to try.

  1. pumpkin pie is not really enjoyed here! But we ate LOTS and LOTS of nice Thanksgiving food this year. Leave it to a bunch of foreigners, we can make it feel like American Thanksgiving just about anywhere!
And I am with you, Skype makes the world feel small sometimes and it's a lifesaver...especially during your first holidays away!
