Kill Heels

January has been a bit hectic for us. At school our students are getting ready for our big annual concert. It is a big deal here for the kids to do well for their parents. Parents will often call in complaining the following day if their child didn't do well or if they didn't get enough speaking lines. The culture is very much focused on success in education so there is a lot of pressure on the children and the teachers to do a good job. They memorize so many dances and little skits. It is interesting because most of the month we have really kind of skipped out on much teaching in favor of practice, which is good for the performance, but overall isn't very helpful for the students.

Anyway, my supervisor asked me to be the MC for the event. We also then went shopping so I could find an appropriate outfit for it. The Korean style is tights, very tall heeled boots and long baggy sweaters that double as very short dresses much of the time. Well I now have my first pair of "kill heels," as they call them, to make my Korean MC-ing debut. I already took them on their maiden voyage for a few hours the other night....it started out ok, but was quite painful by hour 3. It could be a long night.

One of the best parts of the concert is that my parents will be arriving that very morning, just in time to come and watch it before spending 9 more days with us exploring the city of Busan. We are pretty excited!!! This is just for fun, but in the case that we can't pick them up at the airport (which we are planning on) these are there instructions for a cab driver to bring them to our house. It is just amazing how complex it looks isn't it?

When they are here we plan to take them to many of the paces we love and go exploring a bunch of the other paces we don't even know yet. It will be such a blast. Please pray for their safe travel. They will be leaving Tuesday evening from Chicago and flying to Beijing China where they will have an 8 hour layover. They will arrive in Busan on our Thursday morning at 11:45am, which is Wednesday evening 9:45pm in Indiana. About a 24 hour travel period. There will be much blogging to come of the fun time we will have. It is sure to be a once in a lifetime visit.

This is screen golf - one of Jon's favorite things here. It is really quite cool! We'll be taking Dad for sure!

And finally, just because they are so adorable, our nephews who we skyped with while they opened our Christmas presents. We love them!!! And we have a third little niece or nephew on their way here in about 2 months.

This week holds many things! The arrival of our parents and our Concert. We can't hardly wait for Friday and the beginning of our vacation with Mama & Pops Bennett :) and the end of concert prep!!
