fish festival day

Today was the Jagalchi Fish Festival which happens every year. This is a little look at what the vendors have to offer you as you walk through the crowded streets and allies... Some are live, some have just died, and some are so dead they are crispy.

Don't you want to eat one of those?

Shrimp has a whole new meaning when you see it like this...

Who knows what they do with it at the end of the day... or if it has been there for days already???

Jon, Jonny, Kasey, & Skye getting ready to be in the fish catching contest. (eels & halibut)

No fishing poles here - you just go for it with your hands.

Jon got one first. He's quite entertaining to all the Koreans.

But he got too cocky and lost it :) hahaha.

Here he goes again, after an eel this time.

And here is the halibut flying into the basket. A few minutes later they cut it up and we carried it's insides home with us as a prize. Jon actually tried eating it raw- not too bad he says. Yum.

Then they got interviewed by the news. We are a pretty big deal here :)

This is a relay Jon and I were in, but we didn't get any pictures of us actually doing it. I wanted you to get to see what we had to do though. It was a pass the eel/octopus relay. Here they are passing an octopus from one person to the next down a line of 10 people. It was quite funny.

The octopus. It suction cupped to my hands when it got handed to me... I actually screamed because I was just expecting eels and I got this slime ball of writhing legs.

And here you can't really see it, but the eel's mouth is trying to bite the woman. It was scary!

Crunchy dried out teeny octopus or minnows anyone??? Better than lays potato chips. We actually got served the crunchy fish at school one day. They call them anchovies. I call them NASTY.

I got a guitar today! My first ever. These guys were so kind and helpful!

Jon says I was really excited. I was.

Already working on getting calluses. Just writing right now is a labor of love. Hitting the keyboard is painful as my finger tips are quite raw. But mom, you are worth it :) ...as is everyone else who reads this.
It was a good day. Glad to be home.

  2. Wow, you sure had an eventful day! The fish festival sounds like a wild & crazy fun time. I loved the pictures! Jon is game for about anything isn't he? "Slime ball of writhing legs", very descriptive, I can't imagine doing that. LOL

So excited for you, getting the guitar is really neat. You are so musically talented, you'll probably pick it up easily, just like Matt. Enjoy it, calluses & all. Love you guys!
